What is a Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review (CSPR)? 

Local authorities are required, under a statutory duty, to notify the National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel within 5 days of an incident where they know or suspect that a child has been abused or neglected and a child has died or been seriously harmed.

Local Authorities are also required to notify the Local Safeguarding Children Partnership (LSCP) so that information about the incident can be shared by partner agencies to establish whether the criteria is met for a Child Safeguarding Practice Review to be undertaken and, if so, whether the commissioning of a CSPR is the most appropriate response in the circumstances to aid local learning.

In Solihull we have established a local Child Safeguarding Practice Review (CSPR) Group which is responsible for making recommendations to the named Safeguarding Partners about whether a Child Safeguarding Practice Review should be commissioned, along with the commissioning and quality assurance of CSPR reports and the monitoring of action plans from rapid reviews and CSPRs to ensure that local learning is embedded into practice.

Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews have replaced Serious Case Reviews.

Learning from local and national Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews is cascaded via learning briefings and practitioner workshops, promoted on the LSCP website and incorporated into all aspects of multi-agency training.
