Using the Internet and Technology

If you’ve found this page, it’s safe to say you already know a lot about the internet and technology. That’s a good thing; technology allows us to access all kinds of useful information and entertainment. Social media is a great tool to share content and stay connected with friends.

Technology & the internet isn’t all good though, the same things that make it great, like its ability to instantly share content with millions of people, can also do great damage. How do you know, for example, that the information on this website is correct? Its worth remembering that anyone can create a website, and that you never know for sure who is on the other end of a social media profile. It’s always important to think about where your information is coming from, and who you are talking to. It’s also worth understanding that it’s often those who we know in real life that can cause us harm online, for example by cyber-bullying a person by sharing embarrassing photos with others.

Remember, you can always contact Childline on 0800 1111 to talk about cyber-bullying or anything else that has made you feel unsafe, scared or worried online. If you are worried about someone sharing sexual content with you, or trying to get you to share sexual content with them, you can contact a police organisation called CEOP here.
